Who You Know Gets You the Job: Your Crew HQ Network

Most crew get their next job through someone they have already worked with. Crew HQ now has a crew network built for exactly that: connect once with the people you know, and their jobs, their offers and their good word reach you from then on.

Crew HQ is a network, not an agency

Crew HQ is not a crew agency. Captains and recruiters search crew here and contact them themselves. There is no placement fee and no commission. Today there are 9,245 members, 4,569 crew on the crew map and 4,161 companies in the directory. The crew network is how those people stay connected to each other after the season ends.

Your Crew Link

Every member has a Crew Link of their own, of the form crewhq.me/c/your-name. You find it on My network, on the home page when you are signed in, and at the end of the emails Crew HQ sends you. Send it to the crew, captains and chief stews you have worked with.

A member who opens your link while signed in is in your network at once. Someone who is not on Crew HQ yet is connected to you when they join through it. A connection works both ways, and either of you can remove it quietly later.

Jobs reach your network first

When someone in your network posts a job, you are emailed straight away, whatever the position, so you can apply or pass it to a crewmate who fits. Premium and Professional members hear one step further: jobs posted by the networks of the people they know, with the name of the person in between, so you know who can introduce you.

Crew who are not connected to the person hiring still hear about jobs that match their profile, in one email a week. If you are the one hiring, your own network is told first when you post, and posting a job is free.

Recommendations, ratings and references

A profile now shows three separate things. The crew rating is stars given by other members. Employer references are confirmed, and rated, by the captain or head of department you worked for. Recommendations come from the people in your network: they tick what is true of you, such as Reliable, Team player or Calm under pressure, and can add a few words of their own. There is no score, and their name is not shown.

All three open in one panel, Network and recommendations, from your profile card or the tab at the right of the page. To recommend someone in your network, open their profile, open that panel and tick what applies. You can change it or take it back.

Stay in touch, on your terms

People in your network see the contact details you choose to share: email, phone, WhatsApp and where you are, each with its own tick. My network shows everyone as a card, and on a map. If you want to step back, "Hide me from the network" switches your network off without losing it: you are hidden, the emails stop, and your connections are there when you switch on again.

Companies and schools are in it too

A company or training school has a Crew Link like anyone else. When one in your network publishes a special offer, you are emailed as it goes up. You can recommend a company on its page in the yachting directory, with a list made for companies: Quality work, Fair prices, Quick to respond.

A month of Premium for every five

Every 5 people who join your network through your Crew Link give you one month of Premium, free, and each further 5 add another. My network shows how many you have towards the next month.

How to start this week

Open My network, copy your Crew Link and send it to the last five people you worked with. When they connect, recommend the ones you would work with again, and ask them to do the same for you. If you have a reference to confirm, the referee is asked on the same page whether to join your network.
