Yacht work is demanding in ways a shore job is not. If you or a crewmate are struggling, there is free, confidential help at any hour, from anywhere in the world. Here is where to find it and how to look out for each other on board.
Yacht Crew Help is a free, confidential, multilingual helpline for yacht crew, open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It is run by the International Seafarers' Welfare and Assistance Network (ISWAN), a charity, and every conversation is with a real person.

The helpline team offers emotional, wellbeing and practical support. ISWAN lists bullying, harassment, contract problems, unpaid wages, repatriation, sexual assault and substance misuse among the things crew contact it about. You can also get in touch because you are worried about someone else.
If someone is in immediate danger, tell the Captain or the officer on watch and call the local emergency services.
None of this means something is wrong with you. It means the job asks a lot, and that looking after your mind is part of doing it well.
You do not need to be sure before you say something. "You have not seemed yourself this week. Are you all right?" is enough to open the door.
The people you have worked with understand this life better than anyone ashore. Your Crew HQ network keeps you connected to them between yachts and between seasons, so that there is always someone to message who has been there. If you are between jobs and it is weighing on you, the yacht jobs page shows who is hiring, and our guide to Seafarer Employment Agreements explains your rights on pay, leave and getting home.
Helpline details from ISWAN's Yacht Crew Help, read on 13 October 2026. Crew HQ is not a medical or counselling service; this article is general information, not medical advice.
