You finish your profile, upload the latest CV, and then nothing. No reply, no call, and no way of telling whether anyone on the other side has read a word of it.
Crew HQ emails you when something happens that concerns you directly. An employer shortlists you. An employer asks whether you are available. One of your references is checked. A job is posted that matches your profile, at most one a week, and only while your profile is active and set to looking for work. A captain invites you onto a crew list. A stored document is about to expire.
Those messages are the honest picture of interest in you. A reference check in particular rarely happens by accident; somebody has gone past the first page. Account emails always arrive too: password resets, receipts and membership emails. The three news emails, Yacht jobs, Latest news and Special offers, are your choice, ticked on Edit profile or through "Choose what we send you" at the foot of any Crew HQ email.
There is also a tick box on Edit profile for WhatsApp. It records your permission to be messaged about jobs and your account. Crew HQ does not send WhatsApp messages yet.
Three groups see the whole thing. Employers with Professional Membership, who can view every crew profile in full, download CVs and references, contact crew directly and shortlist them. A captain whose crew list you have joined, who sees the certificates and documents you store and nothing more. And anyone you hand your own private link or QR code to, from https://www.crewhq.me/my-profile/share, who needs no login and no membership to read the profile and download the CV.
That last one is worth using deliberately. Put the link in an email to an agent or print the business cards with the QR code from the same page, and you know exactly who has it.
None of the above happens if you are not in the results. There are 9,240 members and 4,568 crew on the crew map, so position matters. Premium puts you at the top of crew search, ahead of all other crew, for £30 a year or £3.50 a month. Verified, at £15 a year, adds a badge on your profile, in crew search and on the crew map, and with Premium puts you at the very top.
Check your availability setting as well. If you accept a seat on a captain's crew list it is set to "Currently employed", which leaves you out of crew search. You can change it at any time, for example to "Employed, open to offers", and the captain is not told.
Open Edit profile and tick the news emails you want, so the job alerts actually reach you, and confirm your availability is set the way you intend. If your CV has moved on since you last logged in, email it as a PDF or Word document under 5 MB to [email protected] from your account email address. Crew HQ replaces the old CV, fills in the details that are missing, keeps what you have already written and emails back a button that signs you in with no password.
