Most first jobs on yachts start with a day's work. A boat needs extra hands for a wash-down, a yard period or a guest turnaround, someone turns up on time and works well, and a few weeks later they are offered a place. Day work is how you get known and how you get your first reference.
Go where yachts gather for the season and where they refit between seasons. Ask crew already there which marinas and yards are busy this month: it changes with the calendar.
Day work is work. Whether you may do it depends on your nationality, the country and the yacht's flag. Ask before you start, and do not put a captain in a difficult position.
The Crew HQ notice board is free for every member. Post that you are available, where and from when. Captains post day work there too.
Add the reference to your profile with the captain's or mate's email address the same day. Crew HQ writes to them and they confirm it in one click. Three confirmed day-work references say more than a long cover letter.
No. Nobody sits between crew and the person hiring. Employers search, open a profile and get in touch directly. There is no placement fee and no commission, for crew or for employers.
In this order: your main job title, where you are now, your main qualification, a CV, a photo and at least one reference. Complete profiles are shown ahead of thin ones when Crew HQ suggests crew for a position, and Premium profiles come first.
Set your availability to "Currently employed" and your profile is left out of crew search, or to "Employed, open to offers" to stay findable. With Premium, Stealth Mode lets you look for a new position without your current crew noticing.
Yes. When a job is posted that matches your profile you get an email, at most one a week, while your profile is active and set to looking for work. You can also tick "Yacht jobs" in your email choices for the jobs round-up.
